2 for 1 at Cafe Spice Namaste

Namaste! More than a restaurant, a culinary institution, Café Spice Namaste is Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala’s celebrated landmark Indian restaurant, a short stroll from the Tower of London. For over seventeen years, they’ve been welcoming guests from all over the world who come to enjoy Chef Cyrus’ delightfully original cooking and our warm, personable service in this pocket of historic London.

Their extensive menus offer a contemporary, some would say extraordinary, twist on traditional dishes from Goa, North India, Hyderabad and Kashmir. Using only the best of local British produce wherever possible, and always the freshest seasonal ingredients, they cook and serve you with pride and integrity.

Constant innovation is their hallmark, and they continue to take the lead in reinventing the rich tastes and experiences of India and the Sub-Continent for their discriminating customers. A visit to their colourful, comfortable premises, which includes a vibrant outdoor Ginger Garden (for private parties only of 15 people or more) will be a lesson in what true Indian dining is about.

They invite you to discover what many good food lovers already know. Café Spice Namaste is more than a restaurant. For Cyrus, Pervin and the team, it is a way of life.

Café Spice Namasté is open Monday to Friday for lunch (12pm-3pm) and dinner (6.15pm-10.30pm) and Saturdays for dinner only – Closed on Sundays and all Bank Holidays. 0207 4889242. Home of the monthly Khaadraas Club Dinners, feasts of Parsee heritage cuisine.

The outside of this restaurant is unimpressive and reminded me of an old school or library building. However, inside the decor is colourful and quirky with a nod to Colonnial days. Comfy seating and tables not to close together. There was only one empty table so it was quite noisy. Service was excellent. Food portions are very generous. Unusual food on the menu which made it an exciting visit. I can't tolerate too spicy a meal so my choice was a little limited ( the menu helpfully indicates the degree of heat for each dish and there aren't many with no or 1 stars). My beet root samosa to start was tasty enough, but not as interesting as I'd hope as I couldn't detect the coconut that was meant to be in it. However, the pastry case was crisp and piping hot. My main of ostrich buns was deliciously tender but the star on the menu for me was the heritage tomatoes and cashew nut side dish. The potato and okra side dish was also excellent. We managed to share an ice cream for dessert which was good, although we played safe with vanilla. I had a delicious pot of white tea with elderflower and apricot which was refreshing and subtly flavoured so that the apricot just came through at the end of each sip. Would highly recommend and with the 241 deal it was excellent value. "

Awful food, I think their pork dish was lamb, certainly was not pork.

Terrible dishes, given a free appetizer of soup, tasted like cuppa soup. Never again.

And also really pricey for such awful quality food. Not authentic at all, incredibly disappointed. "

Went to this restaurant and was so surprised at how bad the food was.
I'm Indian myself so I think I know a thing or two about what Indian food should taste like....and this really was poor.
The starters of dosa and vada just tasted wrong. The main was a thali and every dish was under spiced and tasted like someone was experimenting making Indian food for the first time!
It also didn't taste fresh. For more authentic Indian food I would recommend Masala zone, Anokha, The India, The Punjab, etc "

  • "Without doubt the best Indian food in London. For my big 4-0 myself and the wife booked at Namaste (she'd eaten there before with a friend). I was very looking forward to going and have to say it was even better than I expected. The food is simply a million miles better than your traditional high street Indian. Even down to small things like the pickles (the apple pickle is sensational and I don't even like apples). The food is beautifully presented and the staff very helpful, advising on all aspects of the dishes. Another example was the keema naan, which usually is a piece of flaccid white bread and maybe a small slather of meat. Not here, the bread was crammed full of meat right to the edge. I had the pork vindalho which was a sweet/sour dish, not the vindaloo you'd normally expect. The pork was beautiful and tender, as were the prawns in my other half's dish. We ended up buying three tubs of the pickles on the way out. All in all a fantastic experience. The place doesn't look much from the outside and the decor is reminiscent of old episodes of Friends, oddly Mediterranean, but forget that and eat the best Indian food you'll have in London. Fact.
