" Went to Southport on Monday. Decided to have lunch at this restaurant with my 2 friends, one of whom was having Chemotherapy on the wed. We couldn't have been made more welcome by the staff. The food was delicious. We were all delighted by our day in Southport. It was a lovely boost for my best friend. We asked about the afternoon tea before we left and were told we could also get one with Prosecco. This sounded a really good idea and I know we will be back. All being well. Thank you x "

My wife and I had the crayfish and prawn starter. There was an abundance of them both. I have a good appetite and was pleased with the size of it. We also both had the fish goujons, again this was really good. Lots of chips served with mushy peas and a nice tartare sauce. Would definitely eat here again. We were too full for desert. "

We arrived Sunday at 6.30pm on the dot 05/05/2013.

When we arrived the restaurant was about half full and were shown to our table by the Head Waiter with the menus.

Our order was taken pretty swiftly and drinks brought but we waited and waited and waited for our starter. The people on the next table complained and said to a waitress 'has the chef gone to sleep in the kitchen' and another couple actually got up and walked out.

We were eventually brought our starters which were very disappointing. My daughter had ordered tomato and mozzarella which was just three slices of tomato and three slices of mozzarella next to it, no garnish, bread or olive oil on it or anything. I had the potted shrimps which was just a minute piece of bread with about a tiny handful of shrimps on it and a piece of lettuce next to it. A lot has to be said for the presentation, or lack of it.

We then waited and waited and waited for our main. By this time it was 7.45 , bearing in mind we got there at 6.30. At 7.50 i told a waitress we had been waiting an extremely long time and she said she would check. Five minutes later our main came out and have to say was extremely disappointing. We had both ordered the pan fried duck and to our dismay all that was on the plate was 3 small slices of duck about three slices of potato and about four green beans. The redcurrant gravy was so thin and the colour looked liked dishwater. We will NOT be going back to the restaurant. We have had sandwiches in the bar before which were nice, so would go and just have those again.

All in all, very disappointing and we said that if it had not been 50% off with my tastecard it would have been very very bad value for money. I must add that the Head Waiter did apologise for the wait and just said 'they were busy'. "

We arrived on Sunday evening about 6.30pm on 05/08/12. When we arrived nobody else was seated in the restaurant. There were a few people on the balcony having drinks because it was a lovely sunny evening.

After about five minutes waiting at the 'please wait to be seated' sign, a young man came up and asked us if we would like a seat. We informed him that we would like a table for two, and that we would like to sit outside on the balcony given the lovely weather.

He appeared reluctant to accommodate this request, initially asking us to take seats by the door to the balcony, on the inside. We again gently expressed a preference for outside seating, indicating that it was a lovely evening. He again appeared reluctant but asked us to sit right beside the balcony door on the outside. This was not particularly convenient because there wasn't much room and we had a pram and our baby with us.

We asked why we had to sit in these specific seats given that the balcony only had a few guests and 85% of the tables were free. He replied that if we sit further down (away from the door) then "the staff would have to carry the food further and that it was a bit of a hassle". A bit shocked by the response we took the menus handed to us and sat just outside the balcony door.

We sat outside for about 10 minutes and noticed more guests had arrived inside and their orders were being taken. At this point I went inside to find a member of staff to take our order - menu in hand. I had to go again to the 'wait to be seated' sign, and wait to be approached. After an additional 5 minutes a female member of staff asked if she could help. I indicated that we were sitting outside by the door and wanted to place an order.

Unbelievably she told me that they do not serve food outside, that we could not order from the menu we had been given (it finished 4 hours earlier), BUT that she would make an exception this time and take our order from a newly presented menu which was a drastically limited of the original menu.

I walked outside, new menu in hand, and left it on the table for the next soon-to-be-disappointed guest. We ate next door at Fino's where the service was superb. Don't waste your time with the Marine Brasserie. "
