With winter on the horizon, it’s long days, short nights, and bitterly cold weather coming to the fore, people across the land are searching far and wide for something to keep themselves warm and comfortable to take them through to the spring. Okay, it’s not as dire as all that, at least not for the majority of us Brits, what with our insulation, central heating, and the all-round cheer and good feeling that comes with this, the most joyful of seasons. That’s right, Christmas is around the corner!

Christmas is a festival that brings families together like no other. It is a time when a tree becomes the centrepiece of any household, where chocolate becomes a legitimate accompaniment to one’s breakfast, and children far and wide wait in eager anticipation for a portly man with a white beard to shuffle down a (sometimes non-existent) chimney to provide the household with a plethora of gifts. What is perhaps most synonymous with the celebration however, and this is something that is particularly apparent in the case of my family and friends, is the increase in the consumption of food and drink during the festive period, with diets going out of the window in favour of comfort foods, scrumptious treats, and copious amounts of prosecco. What better way is there to kick the festivities off then than by attending one of the ever-popular, and highly entertaining, Eat and Drink Festivals?

Taking place at Manchester’s Event City between the 9th and 12th November 2017 and at London’s Olympia from the 22nd and the 26th of the same month, the Eat & Drink Festival’s Christmas event promises to wow all that cross the threshold. Whether you’re an avid foodie looking to extend your culinary skills and demonstrate your knowledge in all things gastronomy, or you’re a novice just starting your journey in the world of cooking, looking to pick up some tips as to how to make this Christmas an extra special one and to learn about food beyond its eating, this superb indoor festival will not disappoint.

The Eat & Drink Festival is a unique live experience that celebrates the exciting trends in modern cuisine and brings the very best that the country has to offer in the world of food and drink together under the one roof. You’ll have the chance to enjoy industry insight on how to best pair your Christmas food with fantastic beverages as you sample a number of creative cocktails in The Drinks Station, and to experience some of the world’s finest flavours, crafted by some of the planet’s most celebrated street food visionaries, in The Great Eat – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

In The Larder, you’ll come across a wonderland of exquisite treats that promise to enhance your kitchen cupboards and spice up your meal times, which can only be improved by the high quality, fresh produce and handmade products found at The Artisan Producers Market. Delectable chutneys, fine breads, patisserie favourites and fresh juices are joined by locally cured meats, flavoursome cheeses, divine seafood options, luscious fruits and the freshest of vegetables are available at the most exciting farmers market, allowing you to continue your Eat & Drink Festival experience at home.

Once you’ve tasted the food, sampled the drink and acquired the ingredients, it would be almost criminal not to visit The Foodie Stage, where a host of live demonstrations dedicated to the food of Christmas will take place, as some of the country’s most renowned chefs pass on their secrets. In the Christmas Turkey Masterclass, the Traditional Norwegian Christmas, Gino D’Acampo’s Italian Christmas and the Cajun Spiced Left Over Turkey Chilli, the selection is as diverse as it comes for any foodie and provides you with little excuse not to stay all day.

For those that find themselves not quite ready to go home once the Eat & Drink Festival has closed up for the day, the Late Night Thursdays event will be more than worthwhile, though if you’re not in London on the Thursday, there are a number of fantastic local restaurants to be found just a stone’s throw away from each event, all of which promise to provide you with fantastic restaurant offers, restaurant discounts & restaurant deals, as you’ll be treated to 50% off food or 2 for 1 meals off the starters, mains and desserts found on the restaurant menu with tastecard, the dedicated diners club, who promise to best the restaurant discount vouchers found online for convenience and consistency.

Offering up such fantastic restaurant discounts, the likes of Pizza Hut Restaurants, Coast to Coast, La Tasca, Frankie & Benny’s, Zizzi and PizzaExpress can all be found in the iconic Manchester shopping centre, The Trafford Centre, which is just across the road from Event City, while a little further afield, Chinese cuisine lovers should head over to Pacifica Cantonese, Sapporo Teppanyaki is there to satisfy any need for Japanese fare, while Annies can be found in the city centre of Manchester and offers a wondrous fine dining experience to anybody looking for some good, old fashioned British food. As for visitors to the Olympia, chain restaurants like PizzaExpress, Pizza Hut Restaurants, Prezzo and Feng Sushi promise to satisfy, whereas tapas restaurant El Toro is there to delight the particularly sociable eating party, Apadana offers up a wealth of sumptuous Persian delicacies, The Captain Cook is there for all seafood lovers, and Sticky Fingers promises a collection of sumptuous American style eats. This however, is just a snapshot of the fantastic tastecard restaurants to be found in and around the festivals, with many others being searchable via the tastecard website.

A true foodie Nirvana, the Eat & Drink Festival is not to be missed out on for anybody that finds themselves in and around the two major British cities, and if you plan on heading to an event, have previously attended one, or have visited one of the local restaurants, why not tell us about it on Facebook or Twitter, and be sure to check out the rest of the tasteblog
