The Yak and Yeti in the centre of York may have only been open for a few years, but it has already been showered with excellent reviews from a host of dedicated regulars. The Nepalese restaurant is just a few minutes’ walk from York’s historical and cultural highlights such as the Minster, but the offering of traditional Nepalese cuisine at the Yak and Yeti could not be more authentic, nor the welcome more warm.

Extremely popular with York’s community of Nepalese Ghurkhas serving in the British Army, as well as locals and visitors to York both old and young, the comfortable eatery offers a casual and welcoming atmosphere complete with colourful prayer flags, a cushioned seating area low on the floor for those who would prefer to lounge while they eat, and a well-stocked bar. The dedicated staff Yak and Yeti pride themselves on the high level or service they offer, as well as the fresh, unique offering of food they prepare in their pristine kitchen.

The menu’s starters and light bites offer diners a window into Nepalese dining culture, with tasty grilled lamb and pork ribs cooked in the nation’s traditional spices. Also not to me missed are the much loved street-snack, momos: fragrant steamed dumplings filled with lamb, pork or vegetables and served with dipping sauce, straight from the streets of Kathmandu.

Main courses are an incredible fusion of North Indian and Tibetan cuisine, and include a selection of aromatic curries, of both mild and hot spice levels, noodles slow cooked meats, vegetarian dishes and irresistible daal.

So for a dining experience that is truly memorable, take your taste buds on a trip to the foothills of Everest.
