I've been to this sushi bar twice, once without TasteCard (almost a year ago) and yesterday with the card. The quality of the food hasn't changed much. It's still the same unconventional stuff, e.g. scallop sashimi garnished with contrasting orange smelt roe (chef's special dish, just for me!), sea bass sashimi (it was the speciality yesterday), prawn tempura and avocada roll, salmon sashimi and avocado roll with chopped chives coating. The mayonnaise used for the rolls is authentic Japanese Kewpie (it makes a big difference, if you have tried it before).
Because it is a small bar, it is quite an intimate restaurant, but not so packed that you'll be rubbing shoulders with the diner sitting next to you. I also like it being clean and tidy --- you really don't want to be eating raw fish in a dingy place! There is a proper bathroom as part of the restaurant, which I think is very nice because they haven't compromised this for putting in extra few seats.
It is important to note that all customers, with or without tastecard or any discount offers, were treated in the same way, e.g. with the offer of chef's specially made dishes, which I think was very welcoming.
We had 20 dishes altogether (most of them black dishes), and two miso soup, with the bill coming up to just under £38. Where else can you get such fine food in Mayfair for this price?
If you're not satisfied by what you get on high-street chain restaurants or supermarkets, why not give this little gem a go?
