The Rosehip offers a real genuineness in their friendly relaxed service, with a background of vintage decor, the clinking of antique crockery and chilled out tunes.

A recent change in management has brought in a new direction of supremely fresh high quality rotating specials and classic main meals whilst keeping the generous grill menu for those who need a more hearty feed.

The bar here offers the biggest selection of whiskies in the New Town, full-stop. For those who want a longer sip, glittering cocktails, a broad wine list and a range of Scottish bottled beers (not to mention draught) provides.

Please Note: The tastecard discount applies to the A La Carte menu only and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer including the set menus or any other promotion that the restaurant may run. Failure to book in advance and mention that you have a tastecard will render the discount invalid. Bookings must be made 24 hours in advance and are not available during the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in August.

Got the duck and salmon for main duck described as served pink but when it came it was brown and over cooked very tough however the fat was rendered down. Salmon was over cooked but still a little moist inside. Not a very good experience didn’t send back as felt bad using taste card already and wasting a plate of food. "

    Had a great evening after arriving in Edinburgh from the Glasgow commonwealth games. Was seated quickly having not booked in a busy restaurant. The service was nice and relaxed. Food was exceptional as we had a share of goats cheese and smoked salmon, rose hip burger, steak and haggis. Great atmosphere with local artists on walls. Highly recommend and will go back on next visit. "

    From the moment we arrived we were made most welcome and the efficient friendly service continued throughout the evening in this busy restaurant - some casual diners were even waiting for tables.
    The food was of excellent quality and plenty of it. We had Shetland mussels mariner and Goats Cheese starters both highly recommended. This was followed by 21 day hung Sirloin steak cooked rare to perfection - superb !!
    We were visiting family for the weekend and reserved a table for 4 on the Saturday night at 8pm peak time and had no problem using our two taste cards. An excellent bottle of Chilean house merlot and a good quality Prosseco for the ladies at realistic prices added to make this great dining experience. "

We had the smoked salmon and mussels for starter (mussel came in garlic, butter and mushroom sauce which was fantastic), and salmon fillet and steak and ale pale for main. The pie had a generous helping of meat and the quality is great. Going back to Edinburgh next month and will definitely go there again. "

    Got scallops and salmon starter salmon was good as it was smoked and not cooked. Scallops came out like little dried things very over cooked. Got the duck and salmon for main duck described as served pink but when it came it was brown and over cooked very tough however the fat was rendered down. Salmon was over cooked but still a little moist inside. Not a very good experience didn’t send back as felt bad using taste card already and wasting a plate of food. "

Usually they prefer 24hours notice of the card but said fine to come down, probably as we were hitting the time between lunch and dinner customers. Nice interior with local artists work on the walls for sale, tables outside too. Decent steak sandwich and burger with bacon and blue cheese. Nice gin selection. Service was good and would go back. "

    The meals including Starters were quite frankly Outstanding !

    Had a great evening after arriving in Edinburgh from the Glasgow commonwealth games. Was seated quickly having not booked in a busy restaurant. The service was nice and relaxed. Food was exceptional as we had a share of goats cheese and smoked salmon, rose hip burger, steak and haggis. Great atmosphere with local artists on walls. Highly recommend and will go back on next visit. "

    From the moment we arrived we were made most welcome and the efficient friendly service continued throughout the evening in this busy restaurant - some casual diners were even waiting for tables.
    The food was of excellent quality and plenty of it. We had Shetland mussels mariner and Goats Cheese starters both highly recommended. This was followed by 21 day hung Sirloin steak cooked rare to perfection - superb !!
    We were visiting family for the weekend and reserved a table for 4 on the Saturday night at 8pm peak time and had no problem using our two taste cards. An excellent bottle of Chilean house merlot and a good quality Prosseco for the ladies at realistic prices added to make this great dining experience. "

    We were in Edinburgh for the weekend and used tastecard for this restaurant. The staff were friendly and efficient, food was excellent. We had the smoked salmon and mussels for starter (mussel came in garlic, butter and mushroom sauce which was fantastic), and salmon fillet and steak and ale pale for main. The pie had a generous helping of meat and the quality is great. Going back to Edinburgh next month and will definitely go there again. "
