Diners passing through Harlow may wish to visit the Harlow College, as their student run Skylight Brasserie restaurant serves up some truly gourmet dishes. During term times, guests get a great meal while the chefs-in-training get real experience; so each party benefits greatly.
Guests have the choice of a one, two or three course menu, but it is highly recommended that they indulge in a full three course meal. Not only will it be incredibly inexpensive, but it’ll help fledgling cooks get as much experience as they can. Starters include a rich watercress and celeriac soup, with plenty of crunchy croutons, and an exquisite smoke trout, complete with Melba toast, mixed salad leaves and a horseradish cream.
The main courses are where the students really shine, showcasing their skills and proving they’re capable culinary adepts. Choose between the spectacular pan seared duck breast, perfectly spiced with beansprout chilli noodles, the hearty beer battered cod fillets, paired with plenty of double cooked chips, or the veggie friendly vegetable linguine, drenched in a delightfully creamy sauce.
A fitting conclusion to the experience is one of the divine desserts, lovingly made with pride and each an ideal treat for the sweet tooth. Diners can decide whether they’d prefer a heavenly caramel panna cotta, showered with hazelnut brittle and a lemon cream, or a decadent chocolate fondant, contrasted with a zesty orange cream.
Even excluding the tastecard discount, guests at the Skylight Brasserie will find beautifully presented, delicious meals at incredibly low prices, as the catering students at Harlow College are simply aiming to perfect their craft, rather than work for a profit.
Please Note: As the Skylight Brasserie at Harlow College is a student run restaurant it will only be open during term time, so please call to make sure they are open when booking. The tastecard discount is not available on Bank Holidays or Celebration Days including, but not limitied to, Valentine's Day, Father's Day, Mothering Sunday, etc.
