2 for 1 at The Bear Inn at Bisley

Situated in the picturesque village of Bisley, just 4 miles from the Gloucestershire town of Stroud, The Bear Inn is a fabulous country pub. Dating back to the 17th century, this fantastic village pub is the oldest in Bisley and is filled with character and a great atmosphere. Offering guest accommodations, The Bear Inn is a popular choice amongst visitors to the area and with the beautiful Cotswolds right on its doorstep, it is the natural choice for those wanting to discover this scenic part of the country.

The Bear Inn is also a very fine destination for a meal too, with a restaurant area serving a fine feast of British food. Classic Pub and bistro dishes are the order of the day here with a menu offering light snacks and hearty meals to keep all kinds of appetite satisfied. For those simply looking for a small bite to eat, the sandwiches are delicious, especially the Wiltshire ham and Branston pickle, a classic combination. The steaks are superb and always cooked to order whilst classic pub dishes include a divine Bombardier beer battered haddock with salad or minted peas, chunky chips and a homemade tartare sauce. Vegetarian dishes are equally as good such as the mushroom and chestnut stroganoff cooked in a brandy paprika cream and served with basmati rice.

Head to the bar at The Bear Inn and enjoy a pre or post meal drink from a wide choice of local ales, fine wines from around the world and a large selection of soft drinks and spirits. Service is warm and friendly and staff greet each customer like an old friend. Dishes are more than generous in size with many served on rustic style wooden boards.

" My husband booked a few nights here as an anniversary treat as it looked fabulous online. Please dont be fooled, the pictures must be photoshopped as the room was tatty and dusty, the mini fridge didnt work and the towels were almost thread bare. We had 3 groupon vouchers to use while there but to be honest, I was ready to leave for home after the terrible Sunday lunch we were served; tough meat, tasteless vegatables and packet gravy, however my husband does not like to cause a fuss so I agreed to stay.  My disappointment grew when we sat down to our meal the next evening, our groupon voucher was for a FILLET steak meal and a glass of wine. I mentioned to the waitress that it was for fillet but we were told we could only have fillet if we paid extra.  This meal again was tasteless. The cream tea we were given was probably the worse food we have ever been served; six small sandwiches, 2 of each egg, cheep smoked salmon and ham which smelled as if it was off. There were 2 scons which were warm and edible but the 'clotted cream' was definately NOT and what can I say about the rest of the cake selection? I can only describe them a discount supermarkets basic range, cheap, cheap, cheap. To add insult to injury they were all served on a grubby glass contraption that had seen much better days and wait for it the tea was served in CHIPPED TEA CUPS. In fact everything including the tea served in the mornings (which was a peculiar shade of grey) was the cheepest of the cheep. I am included a picture of the cream tea, sorry about the quality. My husband even spotted the £3.89 bottle of red wine that I buy from a discount supermarket (I love a discount supermarket however I dont expect be served these things when paying the prices they are charging) displayed on the shelves behind the bar, with customers being charged £5 plus a glass.
All in all we feel they are cutting corners big time and passing off cheep produce and poor arsed service in return for huge prices. I complained to no avail I just dont think they care "
