A wise man once said that shrimp is the fruit of the sea, and nowhere is this mentality tested better than at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Originally founded in tribute to the film ‘Forrest Gump’, this American restaurant features plenty of tantalising prawn based (or, speaking from across the pond, shrimp centred) dishes and Alabama themed food. Every single prawn is ethically sourced, supplied by sustainable locations certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council.
Also recognised as one of the nation's favourite tastecard restaurants, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. should be one of the first spots visitors to London visit, and certainly merits visiting if diners are London locals. Those calling in advance can indulge in everything on the menu at an incredible price, providing the perfect excuse to savour a little extra, or channel those savings into a few of the tantalising concoctions served in the cocktail menu.
Prawns are truly diverse; you can BBQ them, broil them, bake them, steam them, and at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. diners can have them fried, skewered, breaded, grilled and more. There’s more in the Jenny’s nets than just irresistible prawn dishes though, with sumptuous meals like the lobster linguine, sautéed lobster with capers and broccoli on a bed of linguine pasta, and the Bubba Gump favourite, Jenny’s Catch with Lobster Butter Sauce, a pan seared tilapia partnered with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach.
Ideal for fans of the Surf and Turf dishes are options like Lt. Dan’s Surf and Turf, a winning combination of large chargrilled prawns with Dixie style baby back ribs and French fries, and the Jambalaya, which includes sautéed prawns, sausages, blackened chicken and Bubba’s own spicy sauce.
For those sceptics who don’t quite fancy being the first mate of a shrimping boat there's plenty of carnivorous dishes to choose from, including such delights as Mama’s Southern Fried Chicken, consisting of crispy chicken breasts, golden corn, mashed potatoes and a choice of chicken or bourbon gravy, and the succulent chargrilled ribeye steak, complete with frizzled onions and sliced tomatoes.
Although life is like a box of chocolates, guests certainly know what they’re going to get with the desserts menu. Beloved American sweets make for fantastic round offs to the meal, with heavenly choices like the Florida classic Key Lime Pie, the rich Alabama Brownie and, for the indecisive yet ravenous, the Best of the Best Sampler; The Hook, Line and Sinker, a delectable ensemble of cinnamon bread pudding, strawberry shortcake and a chocolate chip sundae.
