2 for 1 at Carmelite Bar and Grill

Inviting both hotel residents and passing guests alike is the restaurant within the Carmelite Hotel Aberdeen.

Decorated with splendour, the restaurant within this enchanting hotel utterly modern and chic, with vibrant lighting that immerses the room in royal purples, soothing blues and warming oranges, and plenty of plush, comfortable booths that are perfect for groups enjoying any occasion.

Thanks to the tastecard discount, members can enjoy unbeatable discounts on all food ordered, so there’s little excuse not to indulge in all available courses. Exemplary appetisers to get the taste buds rared up for the main feast include delicacies like the irresistible sautéed king prawns, tossed in a chilli and garlic oil, the tantalising mushroom and blue cheese linguine, complete with a chive crème fraiche, and the scrumptious haggis and black pudding Scotch egg, accompanied with a chilli jam and a balsamic dressed rocket salad.

Those seeking a mere nibble or a light lunch may appreciate a small plate as a meal, yet if the starters don’t seem like they can completely quash those cravings there are other delightful alternatives, such as the eclectic Antipasti sharing board, consisting of a medley of chorizo, salami and pastrami, or one of the hearty sandwiches, including the enticing sugar baked gammon sandwich, partnered with a red onion marmalade.

The main courses offer just as intriguing and delicious dishes, with notable favourites like the exquisite Posh Scampi, made with golden fried monkfish pieces, the sumptuous fig and Stilton tart, served with sautéed potatoes, and the monstrous Big Boy Sandwich Burger, stacked with a 4oz burger, a fried egg and a 6oz ribeye steak.

First time we’ve used this bar/grill.
We often eat out in the city but it’s mostly restaurants in Union Square and they’re getting a bit boring.

I got the taste card through my work and since we were going to eat out I decided that we’d get a bargain too.

I chose here as it wasn’t a chain & wasn’t in Union Square!

It was very quiet when we entered & remained so for the whole of our stay.

The bar/grill was comfortable and looked inviting. The waiter came over with menus quickly.

The menu had a nice selection, although you can’t use the tastecard 241 offer on steaks.

We both ordered a starter; I ordered Pâté and my partner order beef strips in hoisin sauce.

As we waited for our starters to arrive we played a game of “Jenga” as every table had a set! This was a good idea as it would stop Facebook browsing and general mobile phone use.

The starters arrived and both were plentiful. My pâté has plenty mini oatcakes. The beef strips were generous.

For mains I ordered the Pie of the Day, chicken & leek. My partner twice cooked pork.

Again between courses we had a game of Jenga” I won this game so it was 1-1

My “pie” I’ll use that word loosely - it was chicken & leek in a creamy sauce with a pastry lid. To me a pie is cooked with the pastry on top so that the lid gets all soft & gooey & lovely. I asked for dauphinois potatoes and it came with seasonal veg.

The “pie” was delicious, plenty chunks of chicken and tasty creamy sauce. The veg were cooked just right, not over hard & not too soft.

My partners twice cooked pork was very nice. Tasty & tender.

We did have a look at the dessert menu but decided to decline.

We had a final game of “Jenga” however I lost that game and the match.

The service was very good, unhurried and we had a very pleasant meal.

Would I go again? Yes, of course.
    Would I recommend? Yes, I would. "

While it is a little pricey, the food is very good and the staff are friendly. It has a really nice atmosphere - just a nice place to be. Would recommend anyone to try it. "
