Situated on Wharfside Street at the heart of the Birmingham city centre, Malmaison is a stylish up-market hotel that offers all of the luxury expected of a four-star hotel.
The converted Royal Mail sorting office can be found just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Birmingham New Street train station and is actually part of the fabulous Mailbox Shopping Centre, allowing for the opportunity to rest those weary legs amidst a day of retail therapy.
A popular destination to gain such a respite, the Chez Mal Bar at the Malmaison provides guest to the hotel and hungry shoppers alike with a host of options that are ideal for the diner on the go – in a vibrant atmosphere that exudes fun. The bar bites available at the stylish eatery can be enjoyed individually or be indulged as a sharer in the tapas style and include a glorious plate of cod cheeks, complete with wasabi and lime mayonnaise, an exquisite salt and pepper squid, paired with sweet chilli jam and crème fraiche, and a range of sliders that come in vegetarian and meat friendly portions.
These can be found alongside an array of sandwiches of various fillings, where the Mal Club of bacon, chicken, tomato and Gruyere cheese sits in stark contrast to the Scottish smoked salmon number to deliver a collection that is fit to meet the needs of many a palate.
For those with a little more time on their hands and are looking for a bit more of an indulgent meal, there are also a number of hearty burger options on show. A particularly noteworthy choice is the Mal burger, which is topped with bacon, relish and Gruyere cheese, while the Classic, adorned with lettuce, tomato, pickle and burger relish, and the chickpea, a lentil and bean based veggie burger, make for two delectable alternatives.
With the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the Hippodrome Theatre, and the Birmingham Cathedral all just a stone’s throw away, there’s plenty around for those not wanting to shop, and in the Chez Mal Bar at the Malmaison they have the perfect base from which to explore.
