2 for 1 at YO! - York

YO! has been serving delectable sushi and fresh Japanese food since 1997, when it was the first restaurant to bring the concept of a Japanese ‘kaiten’ sushi bar, delivering food via a conveyor belt, to the UK.

The business has grown rapidly and YO! now boasts a multitude of sites across the country, serving fresh and furiously flavoursome Japanese fare. Although sushi is at the heart of what they do, they also have a spectacular range of hot food available; from ramens to chicken katsu, from traditional classics to innovative fusion dishes designed by their Executive chef and his team.

A third of the menu is also vegetarian or vegan, with over 35 vegan dishes and six vegetarian options featuring on their vegan and vegetarian menu. YO! source all of their fish from reputable suppliers who place great care when it comes to environmental and sustainability issues too, proving themselves to be as ethical as their restaurants are delightful.

All of the dishes at YO! are made fresh in front of the diners’ eyes by expert chefs and their guests can have fun selecting from an array of colourful dishes, each of which are represented by a specific price, making it easier to calculate how much is being spent. This is all the more apparent for tastecard members, who are entitled to some superb restaurant discounts when they dine with their card.

Whatever the reason for visiting, a fun experience is to be enjoyed by all at YO!.

Important Information

" Visited the store in York today with my girlfriend and had probably the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant in my life.

Look, I've been a waiter before, years ago. It's not the best job in the world, the pay isn't necessarily great, customers can be a pain in the backside and an open kitchen plan can sometimes make confrontation in front of customers unavoidable. So I gave the store the benefit of the doubt after our experience. But then I read some reviews from other customers visiting this store and it turns out that our experience is a common occurrence so something has to be said.

One of the chefs seemed to be having a full on lover's tiff with one of the waitresses that I assume he has some history with. I know because she was apparently adamant that she hadn't cheated on him or whoever she was talking about... And at one point the chef loudly and clearly said "oh so you can sleep with who you want then?!" - this went ON and ON the whole time we were there.

The rest of his time was spent having banter over in the kitchen with the other chefs right next to us asif there was a wall separating them from the customers. Although I have to commend his ability at slicing and dicing as he did it, it's a miracle he hasn't cut half his arm off yet!

The, who I assume was, the manager was very friendly and meant well, but dude. You have no control of your staff and they're completely taking advantage of you and making your restaurant look more like a student digs communal area. It GENUINELY felt like I'd just walked into some student halls.

I've never in my life felt so weird and uncomfortable in a restaurant, it felt like WE had intruded on YOUR day. The feeling that the staff were used to getting away with this kind of behaviour was palpable.

You're probably wondering, "why didn't you say so when you were here?" well, I SHOULD HAVE! especially since I paid £40 to listen to two people argue about their love life for an hour.

The plus was, the general waiters and waitresses were lovely, bar the one lass who apparently isn't much of a keeper (the manager was too, but I've already mentioned that) and the lady chef was really sweet. The food is what you would expect if you've been here before.

But my god man, your chefs need to realise that there is no wall seperating you from us and yes we can hear everything you're saying. Then again they clearly don't care. Not sure what they've got to be so smug about.

Don't want anyone's jobs to be put at risk here, but where do you even go from that?
