Julie: " Enjoyed the food. limited choice but we were in on a Monday night and the restaurant was empty. Lovely lady spent time telling us about the hotels ghosts and helped us find the arts centre. Only disappointment was not filter coffee. Would go back."

K:"I Can't Believe Some Of These Reviews! I have attended the red lion twice over the last six months and can say there was not a single bit of microwaved food in sight! If anything the freshness was commendably. Yes it's a strange place with odd knifes and forks and yes it would cost penny's to replace the lightbulbs! But a family of four having a lovely meal out cost the same as a bloody grease dripping home delivered pizza .
The kids loved it we are going back next week for my birthday."

ben:" lunchtime with the girlfriend On the way to Colchester we decided to pick red lion as it was within destination, had to ring to book, on the phone the lady tells us " they where fully booked but can call us back if cancellation or room for one more" later on get a call to tell us there's a cancellation and that we will be a table. Turning up at red lion even though it was empty, it had a beautiful structure on the inside, not much for window views of Colchester town or sence of warmth, got served well with good size meals for value of money but not a large choice meals. Later on through finishing our meal we ended up having to be the only customers in there for 1 hour and half.....consumption, cold, good meal and serves and odd cutlery ."

Fearless:"Shockingly Bad Not a good experience in anyway , service was poor , food was microwaved , music in the background was a radio station half tuned in , light bulbs not working , a clock with no hands ( not sure what that was for ) they didn't have the wine we wanted from the menu , very dated decor , cutlery was odd , take our advice & don't bother , sorry but not one good thing to say, such a shame because such a beautiful building could be made a lovely venue ."
