Having spent a lovely day at the Ayr International Air Show, I along with my 2 daughters decided to pop in for a curry using my tastecard, knew we’d only qualify for 2 for 1 deal but that wasn’t a problem. On first impressions, noted a distinct lack of atmosphere but hungry, we ignored this. Ordered 2 starters, 3 mains some sides and some drinks. Starters arrived and at £6.50 per pakora the portion sizes were very small and on the expensive side. Hungry, we carried on to the mains and again noticed the portions were on the small side despite the inflated prices but given the limited menu options we thought this might be indicative of good quality food. Two of the dishes were ok but the chilli garlic chicken my daughter ordered had a distinct taste of fish, which she hates. We all tried a tiny piece of sauce before alerting the waiter who offered to get us something else but we declined this as it had already taken half an hour between our starters and mains so when we asked, he said he’d remove it from the bill. When the bill arrived it had been removed but we were still being charged for 2 mains despite the Tastecard deal and were told by the head waiter that he would no longer be refunding this as we were previously advised and cited the reason for this was because it was “subject to taste” and there was nothing wrong with the food itself. I told him I’d pay for what we ate as the dish wasn’t acceptable and we refused to eat it but we were told “no, you will pay the full price” whilst aggressively shoving the bill at me. Unhappy, I had no option but to pay. As curry connoisseurs living in the south side of Glasgow we are very well acquainted with Indian cuisine and know the difference between a good and bad dish. I’ve been to a number of restaurants and have never felt as compelled to write a review as I have today. I took the fish chilli garlic chicken back home to get the opinion of other family members, two of who are Asian and we were all unanimous on the distinct fish taste then promptly left it for the seagulls who’ll eat anything. Had the pan previously been used to cook fish or seafood and not cleaned properly, I’ll never know but it certainly left us with a very bad taste in our mouths.
