After a little break away from regular trips to Baumann's, to allow other restaurants in the area to woo us, we returned last night and can't help wondering why on earth we strayed!
The food was as usual exceptional, I had Tempura Squid and Chorizo Meatballs to start, the Husband had 'The Dogs Dinner' - Wow, wow, wow!!! For Mains I had a beautiful light piece of Turbot with Saffron Mash and the Husband had succulent Duck breast with Dauphonoisse. Dessert for me was a Ferrero Rocher Cheesecake and Lemongrass Creme Brulee for the Husband. Worth every single calorie!
It was a first for us to go on a Thursday night, preferring Sunday Lunch for fine food but we will be making Thursday the new Sunday going forward!
Last night there was a C4 film crew filming Mark Baumann and an exceptional young trainee Chef 'Charlie' for a programme to be screened in the New Year called 'Helping Hands' about opportunities for young people. Just proves not only is Mark Baumann an exceptional Chef he also invests in giving hope and sharing his skills in a selfless and discreet way (unlike some other celeb chefs who scream it from the rooftops).
We can't praise this place enough, if you haven't been you are truly missing out on what we consider to be simply the best food and atmosphere to be found in Essex. We've been using tastecard on the days it's accepted for 2 years now and never, ever has there been any query at all which makes this undoubtedly extreme value for money.
