We visited the Gay Hussar for a Friday evening pre-theatre meal, our first experience of Hungarian food. The first thing I have to say is how courteous the staff were - okay, we were early and the restaurant wasn't busy (hence difficult to comment on atmosphere), we were welcomed, questions anticipated, honest advice about the food given, we weren't rushed but everything arrived in good time and we were able to leave at the time we needed to - there was something old-fashioned about the consideration and interaction which was lovely.
We enjoyed the food hugely, recommend the Hungarian bean soup, stuffed cabbage leaves with sauerkraut (tasty and low carb) and the poppy seed strudel. Really recommend asking for advice about the menu options, it was really helpful.
Not frequent visitors to London, but we will be going back to the Gar Hussar again.
