Sat on Smithfield Square, a stone’s throw away from the River Liffey, The Maldron Hotel is a contemporary venue that really does provide a home away from home. The hotel offers all of the warmth and relaxation expected of a fine guesthouse, something that is epitomised by its on-site bar and restaurant, the Grain and Grill.

The pristine interior of the restaurant is complete with spotless, light grey cushioned seating and immaculate wooden tables that are surrounded by walls adorned with vibrant paintings. This is more than matched by a superb food offering that is brought to the table by friendly service staff, who do their utmost to ensure that diners leave with a smile on their face.

The extensive menu at the Grain and Grill is as diverse as it is delectable – with an Irish fish chowder that is wonderfully contrasted by a set of spicy crispy chicken wings in a starters list that promises to whet the appetite in style. It is in the main course selection however that the feast really comes alive, where the head chef has created a range of dishes that are fit to meet the needs of any palate. These include the quintessentially British favourite in the fish and chips, a tender 10-ounce 30-day dry-aged strip loin steak, the confit duck with braised cabbage, potato croquette, and plum and apple chutney, and the smooth herbivorous alternative in the vegetable korma. To round the meal off, there are an array of cakes at their coffee dock, as well as a homemade Eton mess.

The hotel’s fabulous city centre location is just a hop, skip and a jump away from many of the major attractions in the city, including the Old Jameson Distillery, St. Michan’s Church and the National Leprechaun Museum. This makes the Grain and Grill Restaurant and Bar at the Maldron hotel a fantastic stop off spot from which to enjoy a bit of respite and a wonderful bite amidst a day of sightseeing and exploration – and with 50% coming off the price of the food with tastecard, it comes at great value too.
