Please Note: This tastecard offer only applies to the Tavern Bar's a la carte food menu. Drinks are not included. Housed in the exquisite Edwardian era Crown and Mitre Hotel in central Carlisle, the Tavern Bar offers contemporary British pub favourites, with internationally inspired twists. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite of lunch or looking to spend a few long and indulgent hours filling up on hearty grub with friends or family, the Tavern Bar is a relaxing and friendly environment to kick back in. Despite still maintaining some original features such as the traditional fireplace and stunning high ceilings adorned with chandeliers, the hotel and its bar are now up-to-date and modern, with speedy, friendly service from the passionate team who run it. The menu boasts a supreme selection of steaks and burgers: try the Tavern's BBQ pulled pork tower burger, with American slaw, or their 8oz beef burger with smoked bacon and heaps of tasty cheddar cheese. Real meat-lovers can have a go at managing a Crown & Mitre Mixed Grill, consisting of locally sourced steak, Cajun chicken, Cumberland sausages, gammon, Haggis and a fried egg. Those fancying something a little lighter will have trouble deciding from their tempting selection of sandwiches and Paninis, not to mention the grilled halloumi salad: Mediterranean grilled cheese on a bed of spinach, orange segments, toasted walnuts, mint and white wine vinegar. Crown and Mitre hotel's dedicated chefs also create a range of definitive home-made desserts: choose from white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake with fresh Belgian chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate tart with vanilla ice-cream, or the irresistible, all-time favourite sticky toffee pudding. If you're feeling too full for dessert after the excellent main course potion sizes, there's always the cheeseboard, stacked full of stilton, brie, cheddar, smoked cheese, chutney and grapes, and the top-class wine selection to wash it down with. The Crown and Mitre Hotel's location, within a few minutes of both Carlisle Cathedral and the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, and ten minutes from Carlisle train station, makes it a superb haven to warm up and refuel after a day spent exploring the town's heritage or browsing the shops.
