What films are coming to the cinema this January?

Here's the movies we're excited about this month.

A new year can mean only one thing... new cinema releases! 2022 looks as though it's going to be jam-packed with top tier films, and we're certainly off to a strong start this January. From another addition to the Scream series to Guillermo del Toro's remake of the 1947 film Nightmare Alley, there's a bit of a spooky theme going on this month, and we're sure you're going to love it.

The 355.

Ladies, this one's all about you. Featuring a star-studded female-led cast, The 355 follows five of the top female secret agents from around the world – American, British, German, Colombian, and Chinese – as they attempt to prevent WWIII. From Parisian cafes to Moroccan markets, expect the action to transport you all around the globe in this spy flick.

Release date: 7th January 2022

Scream.

"Hello, Sidney" – slasher fans rejoice; the fifth instalment to the famed Scream series is coming to a cinema near you this Jan. Taking place 25 years after the first string of deadly murders in Woodsboro, California, a new knife-wielding murderer takes on the iconic Ghostface mask and begins a new reign of terror on the town's teenagers to uncover secrets from the town's deadly history.

Release date: 14th January 2022

Cast: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid

Belfast.

Based on real-life events from writer and director Kevin Branagh's childhood and beautifully filmed in black and white, Belfast is a semi-autobiographical film that showcases the unrest and violence in Northern Ireland's capital in the '60s through the innocent eyes of Buddy, a nine-year-old boy in a working-class family.

Nightmare Alley.

Mexican movie-maker Guillermo del Toro is back with a remake of the 1947 film Nightmare Alley. Based upon the 1946 William Lindsay Gresham noir novel of the same name, the tale follows an ambitious carny called Stan Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) as he becomes close with a clairvoyant and her mentalist husband at a travelling carnival. Using his entrepreneurial spirit, Carlisle puts his newfound skills to the test, conning the elite and wealthy to swindle his way to success. But his bold plan to trick a dangerous tycoon might just be his toughest challenge yet.
