What films are out this July?

July 2nd, 2019

By Melissa McPhillips

Here's the movies we're excited about this month.

It’s the month that summer really kicks off with the start of the summer holidays making an appearance. So whether you want a feel-good animated flick for the kids or a bit of a horror to get your teeth stuck into, we’ve rounded up what’s out this July. And whatever you choose, remember you get up to 40% off cinema tickets with tastecard.

Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Following on from the film of the year, Avengers: Endgame, as well as Spider-Man: Homecoming, the sequel ties up a lot of questions we’ve wanted answering. Played by Tom Holland once again, Spider-Man joins forces with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to battle it out against dangerous threat, The Elementals.

Release date: 2nd July 2019

Cast: Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Samuel L. Jackson

The Lion King.

We all know the storyline (and if you don’t, dig that 1994 version out), but this time, The Lion King’s back with a star-studded cast. Donald Glover takes on Simba and Beyoncé does her best Nala, whilst Seth Rogen voices Pumbaa. Featuring the classic songs we all love like “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata”, get ready for all the nostalgia.

Release date: 19th July 2019

Cast: Donald Glover, Beyonce, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner

Midsommar.

Set in rural Sweden, American couple, Christian and Dani head to a small village festival held only every 90 years. Hoping for a relaxing summer break alongside their two friends, the group soon find themselves in the middle of a festival much more sinister than their Glastonbury expectations. This folk-horror is one for gore and jump-out-your-skin lovers.

Release date: 5th July 2019

Cast: Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, William Jackson Harper, Jack Reynor

The Queen's Corgi.

One for the kids (or just adults who love a good animated film), the clue’s in the name with The Queen’s Corgi. This animated feel-good film tells the tale of Rex, the Queen’s favourite pooch, who gets lost, having to make new friends and embark on new adventures. The perfect film to treat the kids to on a rainy day.

Release date: 5th July 2019

Cast: Jack Whitehall, Julie Walters, Sheridan Smith, Ray Winstone
