Our self-isolation birthday ideas.
We’ve never had so many tastecard team birthdays pop-up in a row than over the past two months – cue the Happy Birthday chorus on Zoom. So, we’ve all been sharing our tried and tested tips with each other on how to make a birthday in self-isolation a good one. From places to watch live music to connecting with friends, check out a few of our self-isolation birthday ideas below. And hopefully you’ll be able to spruce up your big day too.
Bring the pub quiz home.
“I had a pub quiz planned for my birthday, so I brought the pub and the quiz home. There are loads of breweries and pubs hosting their own virtual quizzes, but we chose “The Not in a Pub Quiz” by The Pub Quiz Company and it was great. We’ve been doing it every Wednesday at 8pm since.”
Molly, Senior Digital Analytics Manager
Try and do what you had planned.
“I had a brunch planned for my 30th so my family all dialled in on Zoom. We cooked our own breakfasts, ate together and I opened my presents in front of them. It wasn’t exactly what I had planned but pretty close.”
Rachel, Head of Product
Get the pizzas in.
“My birthday’s always a treat day so pizza’s on the cards. Shameless plug but you can get 50% off pizzas from Pizza Hut Delivery with tastecard, so two pizzas it is.”
Mike, Senior Digital Analyst
Video call, all day.
“I’m planning on sitting on Zoom all day on my birthday. I’m doing a 1995 theme (the year I was born) so everyone’s getting their best 90s kit on and we’ll be listening to 90s music. Just call me Baby Spice.”
Caroline, Creative Lead
Deck your digs.
“I’m filling my flat with balloons and banners for my birthday. It might not be the same weekend getaway to Prague I had planned but there are lot of birthday feels in a confetti balloon.”
Hannah, Senior Marketing Executive
Gigs from your living room.
“A few gigs I had tickets for have been cancelled but I’ve managed to catch some from my living room which is great. A lot of bands are streaming live gigs over on their Instagram accounts. Perfect birthday evening plans with a beer in the garden.”
Austin, Head of Digital
It’s all in the cake.
“What birthday’s complete without a cake? Some bakeries are still doing deliveries. And if that fails, I’ll bake one!”
Nadine, Paid Media Manager
Do what you love and feel it out.
“Just do something you love like going for a walk, baking, having a bath or listening to a podcast. There’s no need go all out if you don’t fancy it. It’s a weird, overwhelming time for everyone so if you just want to nap and binge-watch Tiger King, then do. It can just be another day.”
Melissa, Senior Brand & Content Executive
