Spiral: From the Book of Saw.

There's something about the squeamish gore of the Saw franchise that keeps audiences continually crawling back for more. Spiral is the terrifying new chapter to the series. When a Jigsaw copycat killer murders a policeman, police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), Detective Zeke Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) head up the gruesome murder investigation that nod back to the city's haunted past. Expect blood, gore, torture, and terror – the perfect Halloween recipe.

Year of release: 2021

Cast: Chris Rock, Marisol Nichols, Max Minghella, Samuel L. Jackson

IMDb rating: 5.3

Prisoners of the Ghostland.

Whatever you think of Nicolas Cage as an actor, Prisoners of the Ghostland is a wonderfully wacky western-inspired movie like no other. Taking place in the dangerous frontier city of Samurai Town, banged-up bank robber The Hero (Nicolas Cage) is recruited to track down the wicked warlord's (Bill Moseley) missing granddaughter Bernice (Sofia Boutella) from a wasteland in return for his freedom. Sounds simple, right? Well, The Hero only has three days to it until his suit self-destructs. It's a brilliantly bizarre watch.

Year of release: 2021

Cast: Nicolas Cage, Sofia Boutella, Bill Moseley

IMDb rating: 4.2

A Quiet Place Part II.

John Krasinski has come a long way from his days of pranking Dwight Schrute in The US Office. He's back to direct the sequel to 2018 smash-hit A Quiet Place, and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Picking up where the first instalment left off, the Abbott family find themselves facing the frights of the outside world as they continue their silent fight for survival. Heading out into the unknown, they soon discover that the aliens aren't the only threat out there.

Year of release: 2020

Cast: John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy

IMDb rating: 7.3

The Forever Purge.

The Purge series has firmly set itself into horror legend and gained a cult following since its first instalment in 2013. Now on its fifth film, The Forever Purge is another scare-packed dystopian delight. As if one night of mayhem and murder wasn't enough, members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with the annual night of death and destruction, decide to overtake America through a relentless campaign of chaos. Can a wealthy Texas ranching family and their workers fight off a masked gang of murderers? Tune in and find out.

Year of release: 2021

Cast: Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas, Leven Rambin

IMDb rating: 5.4

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Another horror series with a cult following here. The Conjuring has its army of die-hard fans, and they definitely won't be let down by the series' third instalment, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Inspired by a spectacularly spooky, real-life event that paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren worked on, the movie follows the trial of 19-year-old Arne Cheyenne Johnson, the first U.S. murder suspect to claim demonic possession as a defence. This isn't any ordinary trial.

Year of release: 2021

Cast: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, John Noble

IMDb rating: 6.3
