Within less than an hour's drive from the Brecon Beacons, 16 miles from the Welsh border and a stone's throw from Hereford's historic city centre, The Golden Cross Inn in Sutton St Nicholas is a charming location to spend an evening. The traditional English pub sports original features from the Tudor era, contrasted against comfortable modern furnishings. Aside from a cosy bar area offering light bites and a great selection of wines, spirits and of course, Herefordshire cider, the Golden Cross Inn has a superb restaurant. The Head Chef works hard to ensure the dishes created within the pub's restaurant kitchen are locally sourced, meaning the menu constantly changes and evolves with the seasons. Regardless of the time of year or the produce available, diners can expect a hearty offering of British gastropub favourites; from the grill comes the 8oz ribeye or sirloin steak, the tangy and temptingly cheesy Hunter's chicken, the lamb shank in rosemary and mint sauce, and the novel Cock & Bull: a plate of chargrilled steak and chicken strips covered in creamy peppercorn sauce. Vegetarians, children and those with a sweet tooth are all well catered for too. Time your visit right, and you'll catch one of the Inn's many live music performances, or perhaps even a pool or darts tournament. With a busy calendar of events, the Golden Cross has firmly established itself as the community hub of Sutton St Nicholas, with an ever-warm welcome to visitors.
