Superbly located in Colburn village, just a mile from Catterick Garrison and a scenic twenty minutes? drive from Darlington, the Hildyard Arms offers both visitors and locals a haven in the heart of the Durham dales. The Hildyard Arms has been owned by the Hildyard family for over three hundred years, however the current proprietors, with their wealth of experience, have brought the pub into the 21st century. Modern décor, new furniture and light pastel walls offer an airy ambience, and the passionate chefs work hard to serve up homemade British pub classics, made from locally sourced produce wherever possible. Diners can expect incredible value from the pub's huge portions of steak and Rockford Brewing Company ale pie, three bird game pie, battered haddock and chips, and lamb shank served with potatoes and vegetables. There's also an innovative and irresistible quarter-pounder venison burger with smoked cheese, bacon, onion chutney and chips, as well as a selection of well-thought out seafood pastas and curries to accompany the traditional fare. For an indulgent snack, or to share with a friend while you sample the wine and ale list, the Ploughmen's lunch board is highly recommended. Loaded with cheese, bread, ham, pate, fruit, chutney and salad, it's perfect for a summer's day in the beer garden. The no-frills pub is situated close to the stunning Richmond Castle, and on the Coast-to-coast walking route. The friendly and thoughtful proprietors offer free camping in the attractive beer garden, as well as shower facilities for anyone completing the walk. Dogs and muddy boots are also welcome, so those seeking a hearty meal and some real ale after an afternoon in the outdoors won't feel out of place relaxing in the Hildyard Arm's cosy and welcoming surrounds.
