Located not a stone throws away from the brewery centre of Yorkshire is the quaint Masham village of Fearby. The village is home to a wonderfully historic country pub in The Black Swan, which is said to predate the 18th century. The family run business has been around for 60 years and boasts a collection of 250 chamber pots, don't worry, they're empty. The views outside of the pub are breath-taking, the surrounding area is a vista of rolling hills and sprawling countryside and it is rumoured that on a clear day you can see, from over 40 miles away, the towering structure of York Minister. Given the proximity, it is encouraged for guests to indulge in least one (or all) of the local beers. To accompany your real ale tour, the locally sourced menu of the Black Swan in Masham must be sampled, where the menu is constantly changing, given the availability of ingredients and you can't get much fresher than that! The pub offers a selection of the ?classics?; black pudding and bacon with crispy croutons and onion relish, whitebait in breadcrumbs drizzled in fresh lemon, velvety garlic mushrooms served on ciabatta bread. The 'Fearby Whale', obnoxiously large fish and chips with mushy peas is a must try when you've worked up on appetite after a long walk. Speaking of walks, the pub not only provides quality food and drink, it also offers guests walking maps in order to explore the beautiful setting. Two of the most popular routes are ?the Druids Temple? dubbed the mini Stonehenge in which punishments were carried out in days gone by and the 'Jervauk' aptly named so due to the route passing through the ruins of the aforementioned abbey.
